I always thought I’d be the type of parent who would be involved in her kids’ school life - I grew up going to a tiny Jewish day school in Virginia where family participation was a given. But when I moved to Israel, I got scared off by all the Hebrew; years went by, and I never gave myself the chance to be that involved parent.
A few weeks ago, some parents and administrators from Yachad got together to introduce a new “vaad olim,” a group with a goal that olim parents and families can get the help they need (and the push some of us need!) to GET INVOLVED, or at least to have some idea of what’s going on!
Guess what, Hebrew-phobic olim (and you amazing Hebrew-fluent-speaking olim too - big round of applause to you!) - you’re not alone! There are other clueless olim who have no idea what’s flying…just like you!
Help us figure out how we can all boost the oleh experience at Yachad. Let's work together to support parents and children in helping them feel like contributors to the Yachad community. תמיד חשבתי שאהיה הורה מהסוג הזה שיהיה מעורב בחיי ביה״ס של הילדים - בילדותי הלכתי לבית ספר יהודי קטנטן בוירג׳יניה, שם מעורבות ההורים הייתה עובדה נתונה. אבל כשעברתי לישראל, נבהלתי מכל העברית מסביב; השנים עברו, ואף פעם לא נתתי לעצמי את ההזדמנות להיות ההורה המעורב הזה.
לפני כמה שבועות, נערך מפגש ראשון של צוות עולים חדשים. הורים חברי עמותה והנהלה התארגנו והציגו את וועדת עולים החדשה, שמטרתה היא מקום שבו הורים עולים ומשפחות עולים יוכלו לקבל עזרה שהם זקוקים לה (ואת הדחיפה שחלק מאיתנו צריכים!), להיות מעורבים, או לפחות לקבל איזשהו מושג על מה שקורה מסביב!
נחשו מה, עולים ״הברו-פוביים״ (ואלה המדהימים שמדברים עברית שוטפת - מחיאות כפיים לכם!) - אתם לא לבד! יש עוד עולים ״קלולס״ שאין להם מושג מה הולך מסביב… בדיוק כמוכם!
עזרו לנו להבין איך נוכל כולנו לשפר את חווית העולה ב״יחד״. בואו נעבוד ביחד כדי לתמוך בהורים וילדים ולעזור להם להרגיש שהם חלק פעיל בחיים הקהילתיים ב״יחד״.
